Die Retrospektive KŌAN – GAME OF LIFE im Berliner Max-Planck-Institut für Bildungsforschung zeigte vom 30. August bis 25. Oktober 2024 etwa 300 Fotografien zusammengefasst in 22 Exponaten
Dabei folgten die Exponate der Struktur der Großen Arkana aus dem Tarot – sie standen sinnbildlich für Stationen einer Heldenreise.
Gedanken und Gedichte, die während der 40 Jahre entstanden, flossen mit ein und bildeten die Grundlage für kurze Videoclips und sogenannte KŌANs, die jeweils einem Exponat zugeordnet sind.
Der Begriff Kōan stammt aus dem Zen-Buddhismus und bedeutet „öffentlicher Aushang“. Gemeint ist ein kurzer, oft rätselhafter Dialog zwischen Meister und Schüler, der helfen soll, das Ego zu überwinden und zu tieferer Einsicht zu gelangen.
The retrospective KŌAN – GAME OF LIFE at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin showcased around 300 photographs, presented in 22 exhibits, from August 30 to October 25, 2024.
The exhibits followed the structure of the Major Arcana of the Tarot – symbolizing stages of a hero’s journey.
Thoughts and poems written over the span of 40 years were incorporated and served as the foundation for short video clips and so-called KŌANs, each assigned to a specific exhibit.
The term Kōan comes from Zen Buddhism and means “public notice.” It refers to a brief, often puzzling dialogue between master and student, intended to help transcend the ego and reach deeper insight.
